How much exercise do kids need?

Kids naturally love to play and be active, but in a world filled with screens and digital distractions, making time for movement as a family is more important than ever.
Globally, 81 percent of children aged 11 to 17 are not getting enough physical activity. Sedentary behaviors—like watching tv or scrolling on devices—are becoming the norm, making it crucial to encourage regular movement.
How much activity do children need?
- Preschool aged children (aged 3-5): About three hours per day of light, moderate, or vigorous activity.
- Children and adolescents (aged 6 to 17): At least one hour per day of moderate to vigorous activity, including: aerobic activities like running or soccer, muscle-strengthening activities like climbing or push-ups, and bone-strengthening activities like gymnastics or jumping rope.
Encouraging daily movement isn’t just about meeting guidelines—it’s about building habits that support long-term health and wellbeing.
