3 ways to ditch your car

How much time do you spend in a car? Driving is a contributor to the modern-day sedentary lifestyle. Luckily, there are ways to reduce your reliance on driving your car.  Choosing alternative methods of travel can improve your physical and mental health, and promote a more sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.

Below, we have covered some helpful ways to stay active without driving.

Walking

Choose walking as your mode of transportation when possible.  Whether you are running errands, heading to the shop to pick up a couple of items, or going to a social event, put on some comfortable shoes and get in your daily steps.  Be on the lookout for safe, pedestrian-friendly routes, and consider walking with a buddy when it’s dark and wearing reflective clothing.

Cycling

Cycling is a convenient, eco-friendly, and relatively quick alternative mode of transport to driving. Invest in a reliable bicycle and use it for commuting to work, running errands, or enjoying recreational rides. Many cities are now extremely bike friendly and have specific cycling lanes that you can use to stay out of the road and improve your safety while riding your bike in public.

Public transportation

If your local area has a good public transport system, make the most of this. Catch the bus, tram, or train to your destination, instead of driving there in your own car. Doing so will reduce your fuel intake, which is better for the environment and your wallet. It will also encourage you to participate in other activities while you are communing on public transport, such as reading or listening to a podcast.
