4 simple exercises to incorporate into your daily routine

Incorporating physical activity into your daily routine is important for your health and wellbeing. Happily, there are lots of simple exercises that you can include in your day to reap the benefits of physical activity without making you feel overwhelmed or short on time.

Here are some simple exercises that you can add to your daily routine to optimize your health, whether you’re a beginner or knowledgeable about exercise.

Bodyweight squats

Squats are one of the most effective exercises for strengthening your lower body muscles, including your glutes, hamstrings and quadriceps. You can perform them anywhere too!

Stand with your feet hip-width apart. Engage your core and drive your hips back as though you are sitting on a chair. At the same time, bend your knees as you lower yourself down to parallel (or just below). Squeeze your glutes to raise yourself back to a standing position.

Plank

Planks are a great exercise for building core strength. Start by getting into a push-up position with your hands shoulder-width apart. Lower your forearms to the ground, keeping your elbows directly under your shoulders. Hold this position for around 30 seconds (or longer if you can).

Burpees

Burpees are a high-intensity full-body exercise that can help you build muscular strength and endurance and burn calories.

Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart. Squat down and place your hands on the ground. Jump your feet back so you end up in a push-up position. Do a push-up before jumping your feet back towards your hands and repeating.

Walking

Walking is one of the most easily accessible forms of exercise. It’s low impact and is effective for burning calories and improving cardiovascular fitness. Even just a short 15-minute walk will do the trick to get your body moving and keep you active during the day.
