Benefits of a training log

A training log offers a number of benefits. In this article, we’re going to cover some of these, plus how you can go about getting started with your log.

What is a training log?

Whether you’re a runner, someone who loves to lift weights or are at the start of your exercise journey, keeping track of your workouts and your progress is important. A training log involves writing down all of your workouts, including when you did them, how long they were, what you did and how you felt.

For example, as a runner, you would write down the date and time of your run, the duration of your run, and the route you took and note how you felt physically and emotionally.

Additional information you can write in a training log includes your goals (short-term, medium-term, and long -term), the intensity of the workout, your personal bests or one-rep max lifts, and the milestones on the way to your goals. If you have a wearable, you can also capture additional metrics.
