Budget-friendly grocery shopping tips

Going to the grocery store is not everyone's favorite task. It can be time-consuming and also stressful if you’re trying to manage expenses. Thankfully, there are a few tips and tricks that you can use to make your grocery shopping less stressful and more budget-friendly.

Plan meals with similar ingredients

Buying different ingredients for every single meal of the week can add up. By planning ahead and choosing meals that use some of the same ingredients, you can potentially buy items in bulk which may be cheaper.  You also reduce the risk of having partially used food items that go to waste.

Create a shopping list and use it

By writing down all of the things that you need before you head out of the door to the grocery store, you’ll be less likely to make impulse purchases. Instead, you’ll be more likely to buy what you actually need, making it easier to stay on budget.

Price comparisons

Check what’s on sale. Are you able to make a substitution in your meal plan? Compare the price between brands, including store brands as these are often less expensive but can be just as delicious. If it is convenient, you might consider "shoping around" for the best deals. For example, one store may be cheaper for meats and produce, but another is best for pantry items.
