Do I need sunscreen in the winter?

Most of us don’t think twice about slapping some sunscreen on our bodies on a hot, sunny day.

But the question is, do we need to wear sunscreen in the winter months? To answer this question, we need to think about why we wear sunscreen in the first place.

Broad-spectrum sunscreen contains components that protect our skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun. Excessive exposure to UV rays can increase the risk of skin damage and skin cancer, so protecting yourself is important.

The sun constantly emits UV rays, even in winter and even on cloudy days! These UV rays have the potential to damage your skin at any point of the year, even if the risk is higher when the sun is brighter.

Therefore, we need to think about protecting our skin all year round. While you might need to top up your sunscreen more frequently on a hot summer’s day, you should still wear sunscreen in winter if you’re going outside in order to protect your skin from the sun’s UV rays.
