Don’t let your fresh fruit go to waste. Freeze it!
Fresh fruit can be expensive, and throwing it away is not only a little heartbreaking for your wallet but it means you missed out on enjoying delicious and nutritious food.
Luckily, there are things that you can do to prevent your fresh fruit from going to waste. One of the best things to do is freeze your fruit either on the day of purchase or just before it’s going to spoil.
It’s important to freeze fruit before it begins to rot because, otherwise, it’s going to taste unpleasant when you defrost it! Freezing doesn’t restore the fruit to its fresh state. Instead, it freezes the fruit in its current state so it doesn’t begin to rot or spoil.
Most fruit can be frozen, with the exception of citrus, apples and pears. Wash your fruit first, and peel and cut it up if appropriate. Pat dry before storing it in freezer-safe containers. Remember to write the date on the containers so that you use your frozen fruit by its best-before day.
Frozen fruit will last approximately 6 months. Thaw your frozen fruit in your refrigerator, or under running water if you are short on time. Once thawed, do not refreeze.
