Healthy snacks for work and school

While snacking can be beneficial to regulate your blood sugar and avoid hunger during the day, it is important to consider what you are snacking on. Pre-prepared snacks can be high in calories, saturated fats and sugars.

If you’re trying to consume a healthier and more nutritious diet, it’s best to avoid any ready-made foods that are low in beneficial nutrients. Luckily, there are plenty of great snacks that you can choose that are healthy and will fuel your body with everything that it needs to thrive.

Here are some delicious yet healthy snack ideas for a day at work, school or home.

Fruits and vegetables

Fruits and vegetables are some of the most nutrient-dense foods. They’re low in calories but contain high amounts of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber.

Keep some freshly chopped fruit in your fridge to make a quick fruit salad when you’re hungry. You can also chop some carrots and cucumber, ready to dip into hummus for a light afternoon snack.

Yogurt

Yogurt is another healthy snack option. It contains protein, calcium and vitamin D and is highly versatile. You can eat it on its own with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, dried fruit, nuts, seeds, and granola. Consider stirring a scoop of protein powder into your yogurt to make its protein content even higher.

Trail mix

Trail mix is a great snack option for work and school. It is easy to prepare at home, and you can also purchase pre-made trail mix. All you need to do is add your favorite nuts, seeds, and dried fruit into a box, and you’re good to go!  Remember, some trail mixes are healthier than others. Check the ingredients and be mindful of portions as trail mix can be a calorically dense snack option.
