How much sleep do kids need?

The optimal amount of sleep for babies and children depends on the age. As a baby, the need for sleep is high. As your baby grows older, they are able to stay awake for more hours throughout the day.

Here is a simple breakdown of the optimal number of hours of sleep that babies and children need to thrive based on their age:

  • 0 to 3 months old - 14 to 17 hours
  • 4 to 12 months old - 12 to 15 hours
  • 1 to 2 years old - 11 to 14 hours
  • 3 to 5 years old - 10 to 13 hours
  • 6 to 13 years old - 9 to 11 hours
  • 13 to 18 years old - 8 to 10 hours
