How often should I get up and move?

Regular movement is an important component of a healthy lifestyle. Alongside a nutritious diet, exercise helps keep you physically and mentally healthy.

The recommended amount to aim for is between 75 and 150 weekly minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise. However, it’s not always easy to get regular workouts done when you’re a busy adult. Splitting your workouts into a series of smaller sessions can be just as effective at keeping you healthy. It’s much easier to squeeze movement into your day while you’re working when you don’t need to commit to a full hour or two.  In addition to these structured exercise minutes, it is important to get up and move for short periods of time throughout the day.

There’s no exact number of times you need to get up and move during the day. However, aiming to get up and move at least once every hour is a good place to start. Doing so will break up long periods of sitting and a sedentary lifestyle is associated with increased health risks, including heart disease and type 2 diabetes. /p>
