How To Get Over a Fitness Slump
Nobody has motivation every day of the year. It’s natural for you to find your fitness journey easy one week and difficult the next.
We’ve all had those weeks when getting up and going to the gym is the last thing we want to do. The alarm goes off at 6 am, then 6:30 am, and then 7 am... Instead of jumping out of bed feeling energized and ready to work out, you’ve hit the snooze button several times.
Once you’ve been guilty of hitting snooze on your alarm a few times, it becomes even more difficult to get back into your usual fitness routine.
Although rest days are important, if you skip several weeks of training, it can have negative effects on your health. Your strength and endurance might start to decrease and you might find that your mood takes a dip.
There are so many factors that contribute to your motivation, and it only takes one of these factors to be thrown out of balance for you to struggle to get your workouts done.
So, what can you do when you’re out of balance, and your exercise motivation is at an all-time low? Here are some top tips to help you get out of a fitness slump.
Plan Ahead
Often, we lose motivation when we lack direction. If we wake up and have no idea what we’re going to do to exercise, we’re less likely to actually get up and go.
Planning out your workouts for the upcoming week will set you up for success. You might also want to plan out your gym outfits, so you’re not scrambling through the drawers at 6 am to find something appropriate to wear.
Find a Friend
Having a workout buddy can be a great way to find your mojo once again. They can hold you accountable and provide you with a much-needed push when you’re feeling unmotivated.
If you have a more experienced friend to exercise with you, you can also learn lots of new and exciting exercises and techniques. This is another factor that will help you rediscover your passion for fitness.
If you can’t find a friend, join a class in your gym. You can work out with fellow gym members and get to know them. Sign up to the same classes each week to establish a healthy routine, and you’ll be over your fitness slump in no time.
Treat Yourself to Some New Workout Gear
It’s surprising how much of a difference your workout clothing can make. Treat yourself to some new gym gear and watch your motivation rise!
There are endless activewear brands nowadays, all of which offer a wide variety of clothing options. Find a couple of gym sets that will make you feel super confident and excited to work out.
