Macronutrients vs. micronutrients
Macronutrients and micronutrients are two categories of nutrients that are required for a healthy and well-functioning body. Both are essential for humans as each category provides its benefits for health.
Macronutrients include carbohydrates (the body's primary source of energy), proteins and fats. Micronutrients include vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
Macronutrients are needed in larger quantities (grams) in the human body. They provide energy and molecules that the body can use to build or repair tissues, support immune function and enhance metabolic processes. Micronutrients also support these body processes, including cellular respiration and immune function but are required in much smaller amounts (micrograms).
Deficiencies in either macronutrients or micronutrients can lead to negative side effects or even severe health problems..
