The Truth Behind Sports Drinks

You may have seen the advertising on TV or in your local gym promoting sports drinks.

Many people use sports drinks to boost their energy during and after a tough workout. Athletes even use these drinks to increase their carbohydrate intake and energy levels prior to a game or competition. They’re also helpful to provide essential electrolytes and regulate fluid balance in the body.

Sports drinks are not ideal for everybody. Most sports drinks boost your energy because they contain a lot of simple sugars (glucose).   For many, water may be enough to maintain healthy hydration.

If you are someone who enjoys long, intense exercise sessions, you might benefit from a sports drink.  You can however, make your own.  It’s far less expensive and you can control the amount of added sweetener and salt.
