When your friend or family member decides that they want to start a new health and fitness journey, it’s great to be able to support them with their goals.

Most of us can appreciate the positive impact of support.  When your loved ones are there for you when you hit a plateau or barrier,  their encouragement can help you feel more confident and motivated to stay on track.

No matter what the health and fitness goals are, there are plenty of ways in which you can show your support.

Show Encouragement

When we are finding it difficult to stay on track towards a specific goal, some simple words of encouragement can help.  You can remind your friend/family member of all that they have already accomplished so that they can use past successes to move forward.

Join Them

You might have specific health and fitness goals that you are working towards at the same time as your friend. If so, why not come together and make improved wellbeing a collaborative effort?

For example, you can go to the gym and work out together, join the same running group, or work out in the park together.  When you have each other to hold yourself accountable, you will reach your fitness goals in no time.

Set An Example

Often, when somebody is at the very start of their health and wellness journey, they don’t know where to begin. By taking your own wellness seriously, your friend or family member will be able to follow your example.  Skills like setting a realistic goal and time frame, breaking down a goal into smaller steps, and problem solving when faced with challenges are all fantastic ways to model successful strategies to reach a new milestone.
