What Is holistic health?

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health not only as the absence of disease, but as complete physical, mental, and social wellbeing. This belief is part of an approach called holistic health, which emphasizes lifestyle over illness, or the whole body over just specific parts.

To take a holistic approach to wellness is to look at how a person’s mind, body, and spirit are all interconnected. For example, a person suffering from migraines would not simply be prescribed medication to ease their symptoms. Using a holistic approach, a practitioner might look at factors in the person’s life and environment that could be contributing to the migraines, such as personal stress or pollutants in their city.

You can also take a holistic approach to your own health by taking care of your mind, body, and spirit. Consider how you are managing stress, practicing self-care, your nutrition and exercise habits, and what gives your life meaning.
