What the Biggest Cause of Tight Hips

The modern-day lifestyle revolves around sitting down. We get out of bed, sit down to eat breakfast, travel in a car to work, sit in an office all day, and spend most of the evening sitting in front of the TV.

Due to the constant sitting down, the muscles around our hips can get shortened and become tight. This can lead to hip aches, lower backache, and poor movement patterns.

If you have a sedentary lifestyle and have tight hips, exercise is one of the best things that you can do. Stretching out the muscles in that area will also help to relieve tension. Here is a great stretch to try:

  1. Kneel on the floor and lift one leg forward into a lunging position.
  2. Push forward onto your front foot, driving the knee forward until you feel a stretch in the hip of your back leg.
  3. Hold this position for 15-20 seconds and repeat on the other side. Perform this stretch once every evening to loosen up your hips.
