Why Am I Hitting An Exercise Plateau?

When you first start exercising you may see lots of progress in a short period of time. This occurs because your body is adapting to the new stressful stimuli that it is being exposed to, such as lifting heavier weights or running longer distances.

Over time, as your body adapts to the exercise that you’re doing, you will start to see your progress slow down.  While this is a natural progression, there are ways to help you start seeing gains again.

An exercise plateau occurs for a number of different reasons. The most common reasons include inadequate rest and recovery time and doing the same routine over and over again. If you want to overcome an exercise plateau, make sure to regularly switch up your routine to continue challenging your muscles.  Introduce new exercises and swap out ones that no longer fit your fitness goals.  Also, ensure you take time to rest and recover to promote muscle repair and avoid injury.
