We all know that cardiovascular workouts can be beneficial for improving our heart health, but fewer people may know about the benefits of strength training. It turns out, strength training is great for your heart.
Resistance training (aka strength training or weight lifting) is an incredible form of exercise that everybody can benefit from, no matter what age they are or their physical fitness levels. Studies show that strength training is also helpful for healthy aging. It helps to build muscle size and strength, as well as boost your cardiovascular and respiratory fitness.
Aim to include two strength training sessions per week. Depending on your overall fitness and access to equipment, you can choose to use free weights, resistance machines or your own body weight.
