Foods to Avoid for Healthier Teeth

Tooth cavities are caused by a buildup of plaque on the enamel of the teeth and around the gums. If left untreated, cavities can lead to tooth decay, which may eventually result in the individual needing veneers, crowns, or dentures.

The buildup of plaque occurs if you don’t follow excellent oral hygiene practices, including brushing your teeth twice a day and using floss. The other important aspect of great oral health is the foods that you eat.

The type of foods you eat can significantly impact your oral microbiome and overall oral health,  making it harder for you to get rid of built-up bacteria, even with regular brushing. Generally, high sugar foods and drinks are the worst for your teeth.

Some of the important foods to avoid if you want to improve your oral health are candies, cookies, pastries and cakes. You should also avoid beverages high in sugar, such as energy or sports drinks and  sodas.
