How to do the Skandasana yoga pose
Skandasana is a yoga pose that resembles a deep side lunge. It’s helpful for stretching the inner legs, hips and groin, and is perfect for improving flexibility and stability in the lower body. It also mobilizes the hip joints and promotes better ankle strength and mobility.
To perform the Skandasana yoga pose, follow these steps:
- Standing with your feet together on a yoga mat before taking a deep lunge to the side. Keep your heel on the ground and your toes pointing forward on both feet.
- Bend the knee of the lunging leg to sink into a deep lunge just above the ground. Keep your hips neutral.
- Extend your other leg out to the side, keeping it straight and flexing your ankle to point your toes up to the ceiling.
- Place your hands in a prayer position by your chest.
- Switch to the other side, staying as low to the ground as possible.
