How to do tricep dips

Tricep dips are a bodyweight exercise that you can do at home or in the gym to work the three heads of the tricep muscle.

Tricep dips are highly effective for building muscle and strength in the upper body, and you can add additional weight to make the exercise harder to enhance your progress.

Here’s how to do tricep dips.

  1. Use a bench or aerobic step. You can use your stairs or other low, stable surface if you are performing tricep dips in your home.
  2. Face away from the step and lower yourself to the floor.
  3. Place your palms on the step, with your fingers facing towards you. Lift your hips so that they’re no longer touching the ground.
  4. Keeping your legs fully extended in front of you, carefully lower yourself to the ground until your elbows are bent at 90 degrees.
  5. Squeeze your triceps to bring yourself up by fully extending your arms without locking your elbows.
  6. Slowly build up over time to 8-15 reps and a total of three or four sets.
