How to make every rep count
When resistance training, it’s important to make every rep count. Reps performed with incorrect form or too low weight won’t be effective at boosting muscle mass, strength and power. Below are some helpful tips to make every rep count:
- Use the proper form in every rep, even if this means using slightly lighter weights or stopping before you reach the end of your set
- Perform controlled movements and don’t rush through reps
- Use a full range of motion in every rep
- Consider varying the tempo of your reps and practicing things like slow negatives (slowing down the lowering phase of your rep)
- Focus on progressive overload over time, whether by increasing the weight you use, the number of reps and sets you perform in each workout, or the time you take to perform each rep
