How to start a regular gratitude practice
Regular gratitude practice can promote better self-awareness and a more positive mindset. Below, we have put together a simple guide to help you start and maintain a gratitude practice:
- Select a gratitude journal. Choose one that resonates with you, whether it's a simple notebook or a specially designed gratitude journal.
- Establish a consistent routine with a set time each day to practice gratitude.
- Begin with a manageable goal. Start by listing three things you are grateful for each day. As your practice develops, you can adjust the number or add further gratitude-based exercises.
- Take time to reflect on your day and identify specific thoughts, feelings or experiences that are the most memorable to you
- Instead of writing general statements, try to be specific about what you are grateful for.
- Vary your gratitude expressions. Some days, focus on relationships and on other days, focus on your personal achievements, for example.
