How to Stay Motivated When Working Out at Home
It’s not easy to stay motivated for your workouts all year round. And what makes it even more difficult is when you’re exercising from home.
When you’re not going out to the gym, it can be tempting to skip your workout by telling yourself that you’ll do it later that day or the day after. Before you know it, a whole week (or month!) has passed and it’s that much harder to muster the motivation to start your exercise routine again.
When this happens, there are a few things that you can do to try and find your mojo once again. Here are some great ways to stay motivated if you’re currently working out at home.
Switch Up Your Workouts
The majority of the time, your loss of motivation comes from boredom or lack of interest.
When you get fed up with what you’re currently doing in your workouts, you can start finding it difficult to stay motivated. You might find things become monotonous, and you no longer get excited to exercise.
Simply switching up your workout routine can make a huge difference. Throw in some new exercises to your strength training workouts or try a completely different style of exercise.
If you usually perform high-intensity interval training, try replacing it with endurance-based work. If you usually lift weights, try yoga or some indoor cardio work.
Get Your Family or Pets Involved
Family members can help keep you accountable and exercising together can be a bonding experience.
If you have a dog or cat, get them involved in the workouts as well. Hold your cat as you squat (safely, of course), or get your dog to sprint in the garden with you.
Bringing your pets along with your workout can provide all of the motivation you need to have a great workout. They provide great company too!
Try Exercising in the Garden
Sometimes all you need is a change of scenery to get your motivation back. If you’re used to working out in the living room or bedroom, try going outside.
Exercising outdoors can be refreshing. You can breathe in the fresh air and get some much-needed vitamin D as you work out. Try some yoga or Pilates, or go for something more intense like HIIT.
