How to strengthen the mind-body connection
The mind-body connection is the relationship between our thoughts, feelings and beliefs and our physical body. For example, when we are feeling nervous about something we may experience butterflies in our stomach, sweating or a thumping heart. Learning to explore this connection provides self-awareness and the opportunity to develop strategies when faced with challenging situations.
Try the following to become more aware of the connection between your mind and body:
- Listen to your body's signals and pay attention to how you feel and which emotions you’re experiencing.
- Cultivate self-awareness by regularly checking in with yourself to assess your emotions, thoughts and physical sensations.
- Try a meditative body-scan that allows you to take note of how each part of your body is doing. Take note of any tension or pain you may be experiencing.
- Practice deep breathing techniques
