Self-compassion and affirmations
As we move forward in understanding self-care, it’s essential to recognize the importance of self-compassion or self-understanding as well. Self-compassion is the act of providing yourself with the care and kindness that is needed when going through a stressful time. It’s important to speak kindly to yourself without harsh judgment and understand that you’re doing the best you can. Your best can also change from day to day. Be kind and gentle with yourself if you find you’re not able to cope with something you could manage just fine the day before. Helpful questions to ask yourself are: “What would I say to a colleague, friend, or loved one if they were going through this? How would I support them?” Sometimes being a friend to yourself is challenging, but it usually gets easier with practice.
Affirmations remind us to believe in ourselves and our potential. They help change our mood and attitude. Below are examples of positive affirmations.
