There is a limited number of exercises that target the lower back. Deadlifts are one of the most popular movements to build strength in the lower back.

A lesser-known lower back exercise is the Superman movement. This is a great bodyweight exercise that requires no equipment to perform but is very effective. It strengthens your core and improves stability, which can help to prevent injury.

To perform the Superman exercise, lie flat on your belly on a yoga mat. Straighten your arms out above your head and keep your legs straight. Lift both of your arms and legs up at once to work your lower back.

You can perform as many reps as you like or hold each rep at the top to squeeze your lower back muscles and get more out of the exercise.

To make the exercise easier, lift only your arms or only your legs, or lift just one of each.
