Tips for a green clean

It’s getting to that time of the year when everybody starts to get in the mood for cleaning! Spring and summer can inspire people to organize their living space and start tidying.

Before you begin your spring cleaning, it’s important to consider the impacts that your cleaning has on the environment. Choosing to do a ‘green clean’ means using environmentally friendly products and eco-friendly cleaning methods in your home. But how can you do a green clean?

Here are some top tips to make your cleaning process more environmentally friendly and sustainable:

  • Before buying new products check to see what you already have at home
  • Read the label. Try to avoid using chemicals that could be harmful to you, your family, your pets, and the environment
  • Consider trying traditional cleaning ingredients, such as vinegar, baking soda and citrus fruits
  • Use reusable cloths and rags instead of single-use paper towels
  • Keep the air conditioning off and open the windows to allow lots of fresh air into your home while you’re cleaning
  • Consider donating, upcycling or recycling any clothing or belongings you no longer use, rather than throwing them away
