Top tips for staying hydrated throughout the day
Staying hydrated is important for your health and wellbeing. Proper hydration enables your body to perform its essential functions on a daily basis. To help, we have a list of easy tips to help you stay hydrated throughout the day.
Drink water first thing in the morning
Start your day by drinking a glass of water soon after you wake up. Doing so rehydrates your body after hours of having no water. Furthermore, by making it an early morning habit you help ensure that you don't suddenly discover part way through the morning that you still haven't had anything to drink.
Invest in a reusable water bottle
Purchase a reusable water bottle that you can carry around with you. It reduces your usage of single-use plastics and also provides convenience to support your hydration goals. You can carry it with you to work, social events, or the gym to take regular sips during your daily activities.
Set reminders for water breaks
Incorporate water breaks at regular intervals throughout the day. For example, you can drink a glass of water with each meal, or take a sip or two of water in between meetings.
Consume hydrating foods
Consume foods with high water content, such as watermelon, oranges, strawberries, cucumbers, celery, and lettuce. Doing so enhances your overall fluid intake and supports your body with its essential functions.
Hydrate properly during exercise
Drink water before, during, and after exercise to replace the fluids you may have lost through sweating. The American Council on Exercise recommends about 17-20 ounces (about half a litre) of water two hours before exercising and eight ounces (approximately 250 ml) every 20 minutes during exercise (especially if it’s intense exercise).
