What does sleep quality mean?
Sleep quality refers to the overall effectiveness and restorative value of your sleep. Your sleep quality is dependent on a wide range of factors, including how quickly you fall asleep, how long you are asleep, how many times you wake up during the night, and how refreshed you feel in the mornings when you wake up.
Good sleep quality involves not only getting enough sleep hours but also getting high-quality sleep. To obtain high-quality sleep, your rest should be undisturbed so that your brain naturally cycles through each of the four stages of sleep
Some of the many indicators of good quality sleep include:
- Falling asleep within 15-20 minutes of getting into bed
- Staying asleep throughout the night without waking up several times
- Spending a good amount of time in deep, restorative sleep
- Waking up feeling properly rested and refreshed in the morning
- Not feeling constantly tired and lethargic during the day
