What is ‘Active Recovery’

Active recovery involves doing a very low-intensity workout after a hard workout. It’s thought that performing active recovery exercise is more beneficial than doing nothing at all on your rest days.

Some of the benefits of active recovery include:

  • Reduced lactic acid build up in the muscles
  • Faster muscle recovery
  • Reduced muscle soreness
  • Increased removal of toxins from the muscles
  • Improved muscle flexibility
  • Greater endurance adaptations
  • Better blood flow to the muscles

There are lots of things that you can do on an active recovery day, including walking, swimming, yoga, and stretching. Give one of these forms of movement a go on your next rest day to experience the amazing benefits of active recovery.
