What is HIIT?

HIIT stands for high intensity interval training and refers to a type of training that involves exercising in bursts of high intensity movements, followed by periods of rest.

The idea behind high intensity interval training is to train the body to work more efficiently. Regular HIIT practice can produce a number of positive benefits, including cardiovascular fitness, lung efficiency, VO2, muscular strength and endurance, and mental resilience.

You can perform HIIT on a cardio machine by working in intervals of intense activity followed by intervals of lower intensity activity. Alternatively, you can practice sprints in the park or create a circuit of different exercises to do at home as part of a HIIT workout.
