What is the windshield wiper exercise?
The windshield wiper exercise is a popular core exercise that involves a leg-raising movement. It gets your abdominals, obliques, stabilizers, and hip flexors working hard. Whether you’re new to working out or you’re a veteran in the gym, this exercise will be a challenge, and it’s a great way to improve your core strength and endurance.
You can perform the windshield wiper exercise at the start or end of your workouts. Because it doesn’t require any additional equipment, you can do it at home or in the gym. Here are the key steps to follow to properly perform this movement:
- Begin by lying on the floor and lift your legs until your shins are parallel to the floor with your knees at a 90-degree angle.
- Stretch out your arms on either side of your body for stability.
- Lower your legs, knees together, down to one side before returning them to the starting position.
- Lower your legs to the other side.
- Repeat this back and forth motion to emulate the movement of windshield wipers in a car.
- Repeat for as many reps as you like or do timed intervals.
