Why do I need to warm up before lifting weights?
Are you someone who goes straight into the gym and starts your workouts without a proper warm-up? Although you may not have had repercussions yet, failing to warm up can increase your risk of injury, especially when you’re lifting heavy weights.
Warming up before your resistance training workout prepares your muscles and joints for the exercise session ahead. It increases blood flow, enabling your muscles to receive more oxygen and nutrition during the workout.
When you effectively warm up your body, you may also see an increase in your exercise performance. You might even be able to lift heavier weights or do more sets than you could if you hadn’t warmed up before your workout.
Lifting weights with cold muscles can increase the risk of strains or even tears. By warming up and increasing blood flow through your upper and lower body muscles, you can minimize injury risks and have a great workout.
