Wrist stretches

Wrist stretches

Many of us know to stretch our quads, hamstrings, and calves. Some of you might also stretch your upper body muscles on a regular basis with an overhead triceps stretch or even a chest stretch here and there. But how often do you stretch your wrist and the muscles in your forearms?

Very few people regularly stretch this area of the body but doing so is important. The muscles that support your wrists are essential for a wide range of every day and gym-based activities. Failing to stretch these important muscles can lead to soreness and stiffness in the wrist joints and increase the risk of injuries.

Stretching your wrists is particularly important if you regularly lift heavy weights, as doing so can increase muscle tightness. By stretching the wrist muscles, you can increase flexibility and range of motion around the joints.

One of the best dynamic stretches that you can do for your wrists is the wrist circle. This involves moving your wrists around in a clockwise motion several times, followed by circling them in an anti-clockwise motion. This takes the wrist joints through their full range of motion and increases blood flow to the supporting muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
