Zinc 101
Zinc is one of the essential minerals that our bodies need to thrive. Although it’s not spoken about as much as other minerals like iron and calcium, it’s extremely important in the body. In fact, it’s the second most abundant trace metal in the body, and the average human contains 2 to 3 g of zinc.
Inside the body, zinc is required for cellular growth, development, protein, and DNA synthesis, immunity, information, and wound healing. It’s also a vital nutrient for healthy hair and skin, as it is required for collagen production.
It is also necessary for over 300 enzymes in the body that are involved in a wide range of activities, such as digestion, metabolism, nerve transmission, smell, and taste.
